TOURISM SITES IN ABEOKUTA
There are a large number of attractive places you can visit in Abeokuta. Some of these destinations in Abeokuta tell history, some for luxury while others are just jaw-dropping.
Participants to the 43rd AGSM of WACP Nigeria Chapter will have a chance to see some of the exquisite tourist attraction in Abeokuta.
Interested participants will be expected to register for a guided tour of some of these sites for a token.
Olumo Rock is the most popular tourist attraction in Ogun State. It is located in the heart of Abeokuta. It was used as a fortress by the Egba people in the early 19th century. Olumo rock sits in the ancient city centre of Abeokuta, a name which means “Under the rock”, and has a height of 137 metres above sea level. It is now beautified and upgraded to allow for international visitors to tour its facilities.
The Abeokuta museum houses artifacts that tell the ancient history of the town and its peoples. There are handcrafts and ancient weapons used by the early settlers of the town and its environs. It also displays the cultural heritage of the people.
Built in 1950 to commemorate the one hundred years of peace in Abeokuta, the hall is a delight to explore and offers a lot of opportunities for photo shoots. It is located opposite Ake’s Palace.
